507. Self-Guided Moose Hunts
The massive antlers of the moose haunt the dreams of many hunters. moose are majestic, dark brown animals, with prominent, humped shoulders and a large nose. Bulls have a large, flat, wide, heavy set of antlers, which rise slightly up and backwards. A mature bull can weigh 1,000 pounds, while a cow weighs about 700-800 pounds. Often, both the bull and the cow moose have a distinctive piece of skin called a “bell” hanging down under their chins. Every fall, during the mating season, moose become quite vocal. Bulls will answer a hunter’s skillful imitation of their mating sounds. Our hunt takes place on privately manadged land during the rutting season of the moose. With over 120,000 moose in Ontario, moose hunting is currently very good, boosting a very high reproduction rate for the past few years. For archery moose hunters we offer a bow adult bull moose hunt from September to October. A group of four hunters will get one adult bull moose tag and three calf tags. (Or more calf tags if you are more bow hunters) The archery hunt season takes place before the rifle hunt during the rut. Please bring any hunting licence from your state or proof of a Hunters Safety course to get a Ontario Moose Hunting licence. You will need hunters orange, warm clothing, rain gear and boots, insect repellent, GPS or compass, flashlight, fishing rod/tackle (Deluxe Archery Bull Moose Hunt) and large coolers to transport your moose.
