Bears are plentiful in Canada, making such a hunt a high percentage event. Bears
are hunted both Spring and Fall. The Fpring hunt allows the sportsman to
get outside and enjoy an early hunting adventure which can often be combined
with
great fishing. The number of Black Bears harvested by hunters in North America
increased from approximately 30,000 bears in 1992 to 50,000 in
only 4 years. That's why Canada will always be the prime destination for Black
Bear
hunting.
Which is The Best Season for Hunting
Bears
Hunting black bear is
most productive during spring time because that's when their natural food sources
are the most scarce. Spring sees hungry black bears visiting our baiting sites
on a regular basis. On the other hand, fall black bears have a larger supply
of food sources available and don't really need to rely on our baits for sustenance.
For that reason, our fall black bear bowhunts
are mostly spot and stalk type of hunts. Another good reason to pick spring for
your next black bear hunt is that bears have their nicest coats during the early
season. By comparison, the late season bears wear their summer coats, often showing
bubbed spots.
| Hunting Over Bait or Still
Hunting? |
  |
Bowhunting black bear is quite popular, they provide us with unforgettable memories, and beautiful trophies. In other words, black bears seem to be
made for archery hunters, from 13 to 77 years old (see Walt and his trophy bear). You may think that bowhunting black bears over bait is not a real challenge.
That's far from the truth, try it yourself, and you will soon understand what we are talking about. However, bowhunting black bears over bait is
still more feasible for the average bowhunter compared to a still hunt on ground level.

Classical But Highly Productive
Bowhunt |
  |
These bowhunts take place
in a territory of prime bear hunting. Our archers hunt from tree-stands set
up over baits
which are regularly visited by hungry bears. The baiting process starts a
few weeks prior to the hunt itself. Once discovered by bears, a site has
to be replenished very often to keep them around. In average, each site needs
over 1,000 pounds of bait
during the season.

Low Hunting Pressure = Higher Success Rates |

|
One of our secrets for having so many
successful archers is to manage our black bear population by limiting the
hunting pressure which keeps the potential of our territories as high as
Mother Nature will tolerate. Of course, it means that our baits are a bit
far from each other, but then we have always plenty of undisturbed bears;
and
that's ultimately what you should be looking for.
