Compound Bow

A compound bow is a modernized version of the regular bow and arrow which uses pulleys, cams and levers to bend the limbs of the bow which are much stiffer and shorter than the limbs on a regular bow. The stiff limbs give the bow incredible speed while the lever system allows the bowstring to be drawn and held much easier. Without the cam and pulley system the limbs would be impossible to flex sufficiently.

A compound bow has a unique pulley system which uses more bowstring than a traditional bow, but has it attached to an fairly basic pulley system which changes the draw characteristics of the bow. The full weight of the string only has to be reached for a moment before the cam and pulley system lowers the tension allowing for longer and easier hold period which is essential for an accurate shot.

The modern compound bow is much smaller than a regular bow due to the stiffness of the short limbs and the pulley system. This is great for bow hunting as it allows it to be carried easier through thick brush, trees, and other perilous terrain. The increased complexity can be troublesome and noisy, but there are many quality models that have conquered these problems.
